Overview

On this page

Stump is an earned-channels desk for a small software company. It keeps the communities, newsletters, podcasts and journalists worth showing up in, with each one's rules. It turns your changelog into posts in a real person's own voice, publishes to your own accounts, hands members-only venues to the named person who posts by hand, and records every post in a ledger with its link.

The daily job

  1. Load the venues worth showing up in, with their rules and the sources of those rules.
  2. Teach Stump your products, claims and each person's voice.
  3. Turn a release into posts, a thread, a reply or a pitch in the composer.
  4. Publish to your own accounts, or hand off each post a venue keeps for its members.
  5. Listen for threads worth answering, and answer people in the inbox who engaged with you first.
  6. See every post on the ledger, and with Vane, the signups each one brought.

What Stump will not do

Stump speaks only as real people and the company. It adds the disclosure where a connection to the company needs one, checks every claim against its proof, and holds near-duplicates until they are rewritten. It has no feature for the acts the platforms ban: see What Stump refuses.

Who it is for

A technical founder or first marketer at a software company of 1 to 50 people, posting from their own and the company's accounts. Roles keep everyone to their part: see Team and roles.
